The Zagreb Marathon starts and finishes at Ban Jelačić Square in central Zagreb. Marathoners run two laps of an east-west loop along the city's main avenues, heading east to Dubrava and west to Črnomerec and passing the Gothic cathedral and historic squares. The first 4 km climb about 50 m, the next 4 km descend, and the remainder of the course is mainly flat.
