The course
The Venice Marathon is a point-to-point course starting at Villa Pisani in Stra, about 25 km west of Venice. It follows the Riviera del Brenta through Marghera, Mestre and San Giuliano Park, then crosses the Ponte della Libertà into Venice, follows the Giudecca Canal, crosses the Grand Canal on a temporary pontoon bridge, passes St Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace, and finishes at Riva Sette Martiri. The course is flat and fast; the final 3 km cross 14 small bridges fitted with wooden ramps.
