The course

The Irish Life Dublin Marathon is a single-loop city course starting on Leeson Street with a downhill run through St Stephen's Green, the Liberties, and past Christ Church before crossing the River Liffey. It passes through Phoenix Park (around 6K) and out to Castleknock and Chapelizod, then loops back through Inchicore, Kilmainham, and the southern suburbs. The defining late-race feature is the 'Irish Heartbreak Hill' around the 35K mark on Clonskeagh/Roebuck Roads, after which the route descends through Fosters Avenue and finishes along Merrion Road at Mount Street Upper. The course is largely flat with rolling sections, with around 208 m of total climbing.
